Five Summer Vacations Every Child Should Experience

School is almost out and that means summer vacations, camping, trips to the beach and so much more!  Many of my most memorable childhood memories are of family vacations, the things we saw and the places we visited.  As a result of our family getaways, I've been to 35 states, Canada and Mexico.

I'm going to share five of my most memorable and favorite summer getaway destinations and activities with you!

1.  The Oregon Coast

The wind in your hair, the sand between your toes (and everywhere else) is simply amazing!  The rolling waves, the sound of the seagulls, the smell of the fresh, salty air, finding seashells.  There is nothing quite like spending a day playing in the sand and the waves.

2.  Car Races

It's an amazing (and weird) feeling that engulfs your body as the cars roar and race around the track.  Watching the excitement on the faces of the kids as the cars race, burn out, squeal the tires and even crash is entertaining in itself. Possibly even more fun and entertaining than watching the races themselves!

3.  Camping

Camping is one of our favorite summer activities! The beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings are like no other. The only noises you hear are the laughter of the children, the breeze through the trees, chirping birds and the sound of the bubbly creek.  Nature hikes, campfires, bug catching and roasting marshmallows are a few of our favorite camping activities!

4.  The Aquarium

It's a fun and educational place that we like as much as the kids do.  Dedicated to teaching marine wildlife and ocean preservation through responsible management and exhibitions of marine life.  Getting to see these types up things up close and personal is a wonderful experience.

5.  The Amusement Park

Silverwood Theme Park is about 10 minutes from our house and we get season passes every year.  Whether we go for a couple hours or for the entire day, we always have a wonderful time!  It really is a magical place.  The kids always get so excited when we go and never want to leave!

Family vacations have always been important to my family, from the time I was a little girl. Even after all these years, I remember how much fun family vacations were when I was a kid. Now, as a mother, I get to share and create those same family memories with my children.

What fun activities do you and your family enjoy during the summer?

  2. The coast has been on my mind for the past few weeks. I have to pick up a new set of plastic buckets for the kids to build sandcastles and we will be there. At least once before this new baby comes! Love the OR coast in the Spring.

  4. I love family vacations! We tend to camp more than anything else simply because it's affordable compared to flying off some place on the other side of the country. That said.... I'd love to travel to the various states and check out some of the great historic spots.
